David has appeared with orchestras and as soloist and chamber player in the United States, Europe, and Taiwan. He currently plays with the Peninsula Symphony and the Bay Area Rainbow Symphony in the San Francisco Bay Area. He has been a member of the Brooklyn Symphony Orchestra, the AIMS Festival Orchestra, and the New Amsterdam Symphony, as well as the Tulsa and Cape Cod ballet orchestras. Chamber music highlights include the Irish premieres of works for flute and percussion by Lou Harrison and André Jolivet, as well as performances of George Crumb’s “An Idyll for the Misbegotten” in Dublin, Sligo, and Brooklyn under the direction of former NY Philharmonic percussionist Morris Lang. A champion of contemporary music, David has premiered works for flute by Allison Sniffin, Andre Hosza, Jose Halac, and Michael Kinney, among others. He served as artistic director of the Bretton Woods Chamber Music Festival and presented annual concerts at the Mount Washington Hotel in Bretton Woods, New Hampshire, from 1987-2001. He was on the faculty of the Conservatory of Music of Brooklyn College, where he also headed the concert/outreach office. He credits Bernard Z. Goldberg, former principal flutist of the Pittsburgh Symphony, as his mentor, and includes Georgetta Maiolo, Mary Ellen Jacobs, and Bobbi Phillips among his flute teachers. David is a trained baritone, specializing in the Great American Songbook.
David is available for solo and chamber engagements with flute, piccolo, alto flute, and bass flute. In addition to flute engagements, David has performed as narrator for such children’s classics as “Peter and the Wolf” and “Tubby the Tuba,” as well as for Aaron Copland’s “A Lincoln Portrait,” and William Walton’s “Façade.” |
In September of 2011, I had the great privilege of performing the Lowell Liebermann Flute Concerto, Op. 39, with the Bay Area Rainbow Symphony, under the direction of Daniel Canosa. It’s a fun, virtuosic work! Have a listen...

My Musical Family
While in the Bay Area, I’ve developed a terrific flute and harp duo with harpist Michael Steadman.
Susan Knapp is one of the first harpists I ever worked with, and one of the finest.
Darmon Meader is one of the most gifted musicians I know. We went to Ithaca together, and it was Darmon who introduced me to the Mount Washington Hotel that began an association that has lasted close to twenty years. He’s a great friend, and the founder and arranger of one of the tightest jazz groups around today, the New York Voices.
Sarah Cahill is a fantastic pianist and radio host. I occasionally guest host for her classical music program "Revolutions Per Minute" on KALW.
